At a time when new technologies have made it easier to keep each other at a distance, NEXT is using them to bring customers closer to their users. At NEXT, we help our customers to scout opportunities & trending technologies, research user needs, map & validate assumptions, develop ideas & test prototypes, and experiment & iterate to grow more quickly.

My Contributions

As the sole UX/UI designer at NEXT since December 2020, I have been responsible for setting a UX process, performing user research, analysis and design of the product and creating the NEXT design system.

UX Research - incharge of conducting user research interviews with clients and potential users to understand the possible flows in the product and expert interviews with the sales and customer support team to realise the pain-points of existing customers. User research is the starting point of all projects in NEXT which are used by the team to strategize on a quarterly basis.

Analysis & Ideation- The data from user research and expert interviews are analysed in NEXT which feed into the ideation sessions. At NEXT, we have workshops conducted with the team where we brainstorm on potential solution approaches including initial technical and design discovery.

‍Wireframes & Prototypes- A big part of my role is creating low and mid fidelity wireframes in Figma which are then tested with users matching the NEXT persona. The wireframes are modified based on the input received as part of usability tests. These wireframes build into high fidelity prototypes which are used to create implementation stories.

‍Design systems - As part of my first project in NEXT, I created a colour guide which has been used to design the components of the NEXT design system. We follow Google Material design principles, based on which I have customized the components.

UX process - In order to follow a data-driven approach to product design, I established a process which helped in streamlining projects. This process includes strategy, scope, Structure, Testing and Implementation phases.

My first project in NEXT was an update of the existing design system which was based on Google Material design. I started by setting the colour guide based on the NEXT branding while also following accessibility guidelines. The set colours were incorporated into components that are currently active in the product.

The components include buttons, cards, switch, select, text fields, dialogs, list, accordion, tabs, dropdown and chips among others. I also worked on the empty and error states and we have introduced illustrations into the product.

NEXT provides numerous tools that aid the users in creating a customized process for their projects. The tools have been designed by various brands including Board of Innovation, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Google Ventures and NEXT.

The project included creating a marketplace of tools, properties that signify tools applied in a note and an accordion component which shows the description and instructions of a tool.

The vision of this project was to improve the user experience in NEXT by setting a deliberate workflow. We focused on the flexibility, structure and UI aspects of the product. Boards and notes were set as the primary workspace of the platform. A special emphasis was set for the differentiating value of NEXT - data analysis through highlights and tagging.

NEXT provides functions for users to be able to organize their data in various ways. It is possible to quantify data by using properties, hide/show such properties in a Kanban board including filter and search data.
